Moving to Dallas-Fort Worth

You are coming from another state or another country. First we decide which city makes sense for you.

The first question isn't which house

When you're moving to Dallas-Fort Worth from another state or another country, the first decision isn't which house to buy. It's which city to search in, and that's decided with information you don't have yet.

The metroplex is huge. Living in Denton and working in Plano is an hour of your life every day, and on the map it looks close. That kind of detail is what decides whether a move goes well or turns out expensive.

We start with your job, your schedule and what your family needs, and from there come two or three cities that make sense. Then we look at homes.

How we do it if you're not here yet

I'm Veronica Yeary, a REALTOR® with All City Real Estate DFW. I've been helping families in this area since 2010, and I've worked with people who bought before they ever set foot in Texas.

We do live video tours, house by house, where you tell me what you want to see up close. I film the street, the houses next door, the noise, the things a professional photo never shows.

When you can finally come, we already have a real short list instead of starting from zero over one weekend.

Lining up the move with your start date

There's almost always one date that runs everything: your first day at the new job, or the end of the lease where you live now. Everything else gets arranged around that date.

That means deciding early whether it makes sense to rent for a few months before buying, and getting your pre-approval together ahead of time, because a change of state or job can complicate it if it's left to the last minute.

The full process, with its dates, is in how I walk you through buying, and the basics of any purchase are in buying a home.

The cities people usually compare

The ones I compare most often with someone coming from out of town: moving to Plano, to Frisco, to McKinney, to Denton, to Allen and to Richardson.

I work across the whole metroplex. Tell me where you'll be working and we'll start from there: reach out by call or text at 469-441-8890, or email veronica@veronicayeary.com.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy without visiting Dallas first?

Yes, and you wouldn't be the first. We do live video tours where you decide what I show you, and I film the street and the surroundings, not just the house. What I don't recommend is signing without having seen the neighborhood, even on video.

Which city should I search in?

It depends on where you'll work, your schedule and what your family needs. The metroplex is very big, and what looks close on the map can be an hour of traffic. We go over it before we look at homes.

Should I rent first?

Sometimes yes, especially if your start date is close or you don't know the cities yet. Renting for a few months in the right area usually costs less than buying in the wrong one.

Does moving from another state affect my loan?

It can if you change jobs at the same time, because the lender looks at how steady your income is. That's why it makes sense to start your pre-approval before the move, not after you get here.
