Living in Murphy
Murphy is in Collin County, between Plano and Wylie, on FM 544, about 22 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. It also borders Richardson, Sachse and Parker, so from here you get to several different parts of the metroplex quickly.
The city began in 1846, when the first settlers arrived with Peters Colony land titles. The original town went up on C. A. McMillen's land and was first called Old Decatur.
What changed Murphy was the opening of the President George Bush Turnpike in 1999, which opened the way west. From then on, the city filled with neighborhoods in just a few years.
How I work in Murphy
I'm Veronica Yeary, REALTOR® with All City Real Estate DFW. I've worked the whole Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2010, and I've walked more than 450 families through it.
I cover the whole city of Murphy and any kind of home you'll find here. My job isn't to sell you on an area, it's to help you understand enough to choose for yourself.
If you're buying in Murphy, the question underneath is almost always the same: what your money gets here compared with Plano, Wylie or Sachse, which are right next door. I'll make that comparison for you with real homes that sold, not with opinions. It's in buying a home.
If you're selling in Murphy, your home gets professional photography, video or drone depending on the property, its own website with its own address so you can text it to people, paid ads on Facebook and Instagram, emails to my buyer list, postcards to the homes nearby and an open house. Every week you get a report on what the people who walked through said.
I'll walk you clearly through the process and every document you'll sign.
The neighborhoods of Murphy
Murphy Central Park is the heart of the city: 60 acres with an amphitheater, a pond, sports fields and trail connections. A good share of what the city does during the year happens there.
Murphy Marketplace, finished in 2008, is the main shopping center, at the corner of North Murphy Road and FM 544. That's where the restaurants and everyday services are.
The rest of the city is neighborhoods built mostly between the late nineties and the 2000s, with curving streets, small parks spread around and trails linking them.
Depending on where you are: buying a home in Murphy, selling your home in Murphy, moving up in Murphy, something smaller in Murphy, moving to Murphy or what your Murphy home is worth.
What kind of home you'll find
The typical Murphy home is two stories, from that fast-growth period, with a backyard and a garage. Since almost everything was built in a short stretch of years, the styles look more alike than in cities that grew slowly, and that makes the details matter a lot when you compare: the lot, the orientation, what's been done inside.
Here I often work with people who already live in the city and want to change homes without changing neighborhoods, and also with people who want a smaller home that is easier to manage. The first is in moving up, the second in downsizing.
To get your home's number with comparables from your own street: what your home is worth.
What's nearby
The President George Bush Turnpike runs to the west and is the fast road to Richardson, Plano and North Dallas. FM 544 crosses the city from side to side and connects to Wylie to the east.
The city's trails link the central park with the neighborhoods, so you can walk or bike without going out on the main roads.
Murphy sits right next to Plano and Richardson, the comparison people ask me for most. Here are all the cities I work in. To talk about Murphy, call or text me at 469-441-8890, email me at veronica@veronicayeary.com, or send me a message.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Murphy, Plano and Wylie?
They sit side by side, and still what your money gets changes from one to the next, along with the type of home and its age. When we talk, I'll show you with homes that actually sold in each one, not with opinions.
How do I get to Dallas from Murphy?
The President George Bush Turnpike runs to the west and is the quick way out to Richardson, Plano and North Dallas. That highway opened in 1999 and it's the reason the city grew the way it did. Murphy doesn't have its own train station.
Is new construction being built in Murphy?
Very little, because the city is small and filled up fast between the late nineties and the 2000s. What moves here is resale homes, and that's why the details of each one matter so much: the lot, the orientation and what's been done inside.
Will you be with me through the whole process in Murphy?
I'll walk you clearly through the process and every document you'll sign.
